A Quiet Storm. SiVuPlay, a natural phenomenon in her own right has the ability to take the crowd on an emotional roller coaster with her spectrum of musical tastes. Needless to say her unsurpassed talent, love for music, and her overall acceptance in the music industry has made her a force to be reckoned with on her journey to musical success. I didnt want to be a DJ, I wanted to be a rapper! says SiVuPlay after remembering her ability to memorize the lyrics to the many songs that existed back in her youth. However, it was evident that technology would override her dreams to be a rapstar when she became obsessed with music videos. "Disc jockeying for me was spurred by my mothers words. You know, you play so much blasted music, you would make a good DJ. The following morning, SiVuPlay began saving for turntables that she would own a month and a half later. DJing has become a channel through which I can communicate. Now, known as SIVUPLAY, I aim to please as my alias suggests." Eager to immerse herself in the areas of her craft, SiVuPlay became a member of the MasterPlan Show on 89.5 FM, which laid the foundation for her growth in radio. She went on to co-host online music shows: first Netvulive.com followed by IllNoiz.com. SiVuPlay holds the title of being the first female to play at The Guvernment Complex on Global Fridays back in 1998. A collective of female DJs, Chicks Dig It, soon embraced SiVuPlay as one of their resident DJs. She also became one of the resident disc jockeys at the annual Honey Jam, a PhemPhat event, over the past 4 years as well as PhemPhats Brown Girls in the Ring spoken word event and Women on Wax. SiVuPlay can also be seen providing fuel for B-Boys and B- Girls at Break and Enter competitions, which are promoted by Torontos b-girl crew, She-Bang. Crowds are quick to embrace SiVuPlay, for her natural ability to entertain. This underlying feel for rhythm has brought her to DJ for female MC, Tara Chase, and open for artists such as Jeru Da Damaja, DJ Kuttin Kandi, as well to perform at Karl Kanis 2002 Spring Collection After Party. Long weekend Sundays became her home in 2001, as she played along side her male counterparts at Turbo nightclub. Evidence of her popularity provoked appearances in Ottawa and Montreal, her place of birth. She now adds New York City to her list as she spins at the The Closet an Annual Fashion Event in the core of the Manhattan District. SiVuPlay has as well, added a few MuchMusic appearances to her accomplishments, as she was one of the few DJs to appear on MuchVibe Day, hosted by Namugenyi Kiwanuka. As a member of Flavor Pool, SiVuPlay performed at the recent Urban DJ Pool Awards of 2002. She also holds a number of residencies that include becoming the official Up From The Roots: Spoke Word Event DJ. Pound Magazine has welcomed her in their arms as she provides her picks of underrated and future hit tracks in a chart she calls the Mo Play List. SiVuPlay can also be heard on UrbanGoat.com on her online music show called, Cest What! |
